Nancy was a child who listened to the records of her father and his passion for music. She already knew she would be a musician when she was just four years old. She began developing her talent by singing in the church choir. In her early teens, she won an audition on television and started appearing regularly in The Skyline Melodies Tv Show while still in High School. When she was 15years old, Nancy started her journey in night clubs. Nancy was kicked out of Central State University in Ohio after she matriculated for an entire year. The first time she recorded was with the Rusty Bryants Carolyn Club Big Band, which she sang with from 1956 to 1958. Nancy began recording for Dot Records in 1956, when she was part of the band. Cannonball Aderley suggested that she relocate to New York so as to increase her chances of success. In 1959 she moved in The Big Town. She was hired to perform at The Blue Morocco Night Club in The Bronx and there was a place where Adderley's agent had heard her. In 1960, he signed her to Capitol Records and in that same year she issued her debut single. Guess Who I Saw today Capitol Records came out with five Nancy Wilson albums over a period of two years. Adderley helped her move away from R&B in favor of music that was more jazz-based and torch songs. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley's collaboration in 1962 helped to propel her into the spotlight and her smash hit Tell Me the Truth was recorded in 1963. The song led to a performance in New York's Coconut Grove the premier night club in America that year, and she became a star.
