The Jazz singer Nancy Wilson a three-time Grammy Award winner was born February 20, 1937, in Ohio, Chillicothe. She was the daughter of iron worker Olden Wilson, and former Lillian Ryan who worked as a domestic servant. Nancy was one of six kids. Nancy was a child who listened to records from her father as well as his enthusiasm for music. As young as four years old, she realized she would be a singer. The talent she developed was cultivated by her involvement in the church choir. When she was 15 when she was 15, she got a spot on an audition on television and began appearing on The Skyline Melodies Tv Show while being in High School. It was at that time that she began to work in night clubs at that same age. Nancy completed high school at 17 and attended the Ohio's Central State College, now Central State University for a full year. After that, she left to pursue a career as a professional musician. In 1956 she released her debut album along with Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Big Band. They toured together throughout 1956 until 1958. Nancy's first Dot Records recording was made during her time in the Big Band of Carolyn Club. Cannonball addederley advised her to relocate into New York for her career and, in 1959, she moved into The Big Town. In less than a month, she was singing in The Blue Morocco Night Club situated on Boston Road near The Bronx. The representative of Adderley heard her sing and immediately agreed to sign her. The agent he was working with signed her up to Capitol in the year 1960. Her debut was that year. Guess Who? Capitol released five Nancy Wilson Albums in 2 years. Adderley influenced her to move away from R&B and to focus on jazz and torch song. Their collaboration in 1962 with Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley led her to the top as she released her biggest smash Tell Me the Truth in 1963. This brought her a gig at the New York's Coconut Grove the premier night club in America that year, and she was a household name.
