Winona Ryder Professionally Winona Ryder, was born on Winona Minnesota. Her parents named her for her hometown. Both her father Michel Horowitz, and mother Cynthia Palmer are authors and editors. Ryder is a Jewish. Ryder believes that her father is from an ethnically Jewish origin. Her half-siblings are younger, Jubal and Sunyata. In the year Ryder was just seven years old, her family relocated into Mendocino County California. The family was in a house that didn't have electricity. Ryder became an avid book reader because there was no TV. Ryder began to study acting at the American Conservatory Theatre in 1983 in the year she turned twelve years old. The actress landed her first part on the big screen in the year 1986 when she was 15 years older. Ryder suffered from bullying at her high school. Her hope was that she would be able to change this. Sadly that didn't happen. She pursued her dream. Her breakthrough occurred in the year 1988, when Tim Burton's Beetlejuice. Ryder played successful roles for various films. In 1993 Ryder was twice nominated at the Academy Awards. One of which was for her character In The Age of Innocence.

She was the daughter of iron worker Olden Wilson and his wife Lillian Ryan who worked as a domestic servant. Nancy was the youngest of six children.
